Why am I losing my hair?
The most common form of hair loss is caused by dihydrotestosterone(DHT). DHT is a by product of testosterone found in males and to some extent females. DHT is a steroid hormone just like testosterone, but three times more powerful and is produced in the adrenal glands, prostate, skin and scalp. Essentially it is a genetic factor that signals the ignition of the creation of 5 alpha reductase in the hair follicle. After entering the cell of the hair follicle it alters the rate of protein synthesis (anagen growth phase).
The prolonged affect of DHT, it left untreated, is the hair follicle will decay and the growth phase is drastically reduced. The follicles on the scalp become shorter and thinner and eventually they completely cease to develop. This results in thinning and baldness. This essentially is the most common hair loss process for men.
The Most Common Reasons for Female Hair Loss:
Can it be stopped or reversed?
Yes, in most cases. Most hair follicles reduce down to the size there were in infancy. They remain in this stage for long periods of time. Eventually the thinner weaker follicle does not survive. However, by beginning treatments with a DHT Blocking Treatment, the testosterone is blocked, prohibiting its conversion into DHT in the scalp area. The DHT that remains in the hair follicle is purged and the follicle soon becomes healthy and begins to grow a thicker stronger hair. The anagen phase is enhanced and protein synthesis is restored.
